What to pack for Scandinavia in winter

Layers, wool and the two things everyone forgets.

I Ingrid Solberg 3 min read

The secret of staying warm at −20°C is not one big coat: it is layers, and wool next to your skin.

  • Merino base layers, top and bottom
  • A fleece or down mid-layer
  • A windproof, waterproof shell
  • Wool socks — two pairs a day
  • A hat that covers your ears, a buff and mittens (warmer than gloves)
  • Ice grips for your shoes

And the two things everyone forgets: lip balm, and a power bank — cold drains phone batteries in minutes. On our Lapland tours, thermal suits and boots are included.
